This New Orleans style-coffee house features a counter-service coffee bar and bakery with favorites like the Muff-a-Lotta (salami, mortadella, ham, provolone and olive salad on a toasted sesame seed Italian roll) and beignets in a funky, Southern setting.

Bocatto Gelato & Espresso
Ornate chandeliers, vintage candlesticks and plenty of cozy seating fill this spacious shop that doubles as a co-workspace and event space. The shop boasts Stumptown coffee, a gelato bar and empanadas.

Chill Zone Coffee
An Instagram-ready, minimalist interior serves up gorgeous lattes in clear mugs, fresh fruit smoothies, bubble tea and select nibbles at this new coffee shop.

The Java Shack
The Java Shack specialty: nitro cold brew for offices in the DMV. Also enjoy lattes, sweet treats and quick bites.

Northside Social Coffee & Wine
Bring a laptop for a productive day downstairs, with plenty of food options, Rishi Tea and CounterCulture Coffee. And after 5 p.m., opt for a glass of wine on the coffeehouse’s second floor, with crostini, charcuterie and cheese selections.

Republik Coffee Bar
Republik Coffee Bar has a modern feel with dark wood and table seating. Their specialty drinks include the Cara-Mallow and Raspberry Cookie Crumble, served hot, iced or frozen.


Extra Perks Coffee Shop
Enjoy coffee, tea, smoothies and breakfast or lunch at Extra Perks. The 17-year-old shop also offers a variety of weekend brunch options, from steak and eggs to golden pancakes.

Killer ESP
Start your morning or revive your afternoon with a cup of Stumptown Coffee. But wait there’s more; freshly made gelato and sorbet, as well as pie or quiche from Dangerously Delicious is also on hand.

GRAPE + BEAN Rosemont
At this location enjoy wine, coffee, a mini market and a full-service kitchen. Grape + Bean focuses on handpicking international wines, craft beers and coffees. Ease into your day with a soothing cup of coffee, or end your day with a relaxing glass of wine.

Grape + Bean’s smaller Old Town location features more than 200 varieties of wine and a dinner and Sunday brunch menu.

Beans—including African, American, Indonesian and secret/signature blends—are hand-picked and hand-roasted daily by roasters at Misha’s. Though the shop is light on food, there are snacks and Buzz Bakery cupcakes on hand.

Nectar Coffee and Wine Bistro
Sisters and owners Shirley and Susan Waller recently opened this Del Ray café (formerly Emma’s Espresso and Wine Bar) with their Irish heritage in mind. Inspired by the neighborhood feel they grew up with, the Wallers offer sandwiches, waffles and coffee during the day and an evening bistro with select beer and wine at night—aiming to make Nectar a gathering spot any time of day.

St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub
This cozy, neighborhood coffee house, billing itself as “Del Ray’s living room,” recently changed ownership and got a renovation in the process. Enjoy ample study space, espresso and a host of all-day food options.


De Clieu Coffee and Sandwich
De Clieu provides a quaint interior for working, reading and studying. The coffee shop is connected to a record store and offers a full gelato bar, artisan lattes and their signature honey bread.

Cameron’s Coffee and Chocolates
Every1 Can Work runs this nonprofit cafe that is best known for its various coffee drinks and specialty chocolates. Cameron’s also offers fresh, store-baked pastries and teas.

29th Parallel Coffee and Tea
Fairfax Station
Enjoy coffee classics or venture off with something new, like 29th Parallel’s nitrobrew and coffee tonic. The coffee shop also serves daily brews using roasts from Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Guatemala.

Gathering Grounds Cafe
Just off George Mason University’s campus, Gathering Grounds’ atmosphere is young and modern. The shop specializes in dark roasts and offers a selection of beer and wine.

Lake Anne Coffee House
This relatively new, family-owned shop bordering historic Lake Anne (the brainchild of Reston founder Robert E. “Bob” Simon) doubles as a wine bar, with gourmet food to boot.

Mom & Pop
A Modern all-day cafe serving locally produced sandwiches, charcuterie, pastries and more in the Mosaic District of Fairfax.

Caffe Amouri Coffee Roaster
Located in Vienna, this shop features 20-25 freshly roasted coffee blends, French-pressed coffee and its signature Caffe Amouri on the menu. Caffe Amouri also sells Italian cream sodas, hot chocolate and frappes.

Weird Brothers Coffee

Founded by two actual brothers, Weird Brothers Coffee has evolved from a coffee truck to a full-fledged coffeehouse, serving blends and single-origin from a mix of regions, as well as local food from Boutique Bakeshop and Atrium Catering.

My Favorite Muffin
The namesake comes from an offering of gourmet muffins, including flavors such as Boston cream pie, cherry cheesecake and deep-dish apple pie. A wide selection of in-house brews accompany the sweet treats.


Bean Bar
Aiming for local and natural products, Bean Bar serves a variety of coffee options including espresso and bean brews. Light fare options—such as scones and freshly baked muffins—are available.

Blend Coffee Bar
Blend offers hot and cold coffee options as well as non-coffee drinks, beer, wine and a selection of pastries.

Brew LoCo
Brew LoCo offers fusion specialties including nitro coffee, coffee flights and tea lattes. Paninis and desserts are also available.

Chai Coffee Café
Chai Coffee Café provides customers with a wide range of chai and coffee options. Breakfast is served along with sweets and an extensive sandwich menu.

Colada Shop
A Cuban-inspired coffee shop, Colada offers breakfast, sandwiches, snacks and, of course, beverages such as coffee and cocktails.

King Street Coffee
The coffee available at King Street Coffee is brewed using roasts from Lone Oak Coffee Company, which is based in Northern Virginia. The shop also serves a variety of gelato flavors.

Ridgetop Coffee and Tea offers a local selection of coffee, tea, and light food options. The drink menu has hot and cold beverages available.

Grounds Central Station
Grounds Central Station serves breakfast and lunch all day with a large selection of coffees, blended drinks, bubble tea and smoothies.

Jirani Coffee House
Espresso and brewed coffee options are available at Jirani Coffee House, along with sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. Hours have been extended to give commuters food and drink options.

This charming spot in downtown Fredericksburg inhabits an 18th century building, lending a relatively new coffee shop the sense that it’s always been there.
