When was the last time you grabbed your bike from the garage and went for a ride around the block? If it was for the first time in the last few weeks, you wouldn’t be the only one, as the coronavirus pandemic is causing more and more people to go on rides around the neighborhood during the stay-at-home order.
Luckily in Northern Virginia, bicycle shops are considered essential, and if your two wheels are in need of a tune-up, it’s not hard to find one. Here, we’ve listed 10 local shops that have remained open during COVID-19 and can keep you riding all day long.
A-1 Cycling
All three locations in Woodbridge, Manassas and Herndon are operating on limited hours (11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays), but the staff at A-1 Cycling are still eager to build your new bike (if you order online and have it shipped directly to them), fulfill any service requests and deliver the bike to your home, if possible. Plus, stop by to pick up any gear or accessories you might need for the new season. // Multiple locations
Bikes@Vienna
Need a new bike or need to service your current one? No worries, Bikes@Vienna is open with limited hours, and happy to serve you during the pandemic. Place an online order for any wheeled or non-wheeled items, and pick up in store. To drop off for service, make sure to fill out your information at the mailbox outside, and leave your bike at the rack. A staff member will contact you with the time and price estimate, as well as a pickup time. For now, test rides are by appointment only. // 128-A Church St. NW, Vienna
Bike Works
Staying on track with your new cycling—and social distancing—schedule is easy with Bike Works. The store is currently limiting hours (check the Facebook page for the most recent updates!) and only allowing five patrons inside at a time, but it’s still here to help you find the right bike, or fix yours up if it needs it. Call ahead to find out in-store inventory on all vehicles and accessories you’re looking for. // 104 William St., Fredericksburg
The Bike Lane
Shop hours are limited at both locations, and only two customers are allowed inside at a time, but The Bike Lane remains open and ready to fulfill your orders. Order 24/7 online and have items shipped straight to your door, or choose free local pickup. Contact either the Reston or Springfield location for information on bike maintenance, service requests or to get a 48-hour tune up. // Multiple locations
Centreville Bike Shop
The shop is currently operating on limited hours (noon to 5 p.m. every day, and closed on Sundays) but owner Jeff Carlson is happy to help you get your bike in shape for spring and your newfound riding time. Only five guests are allowed in the store at a time, but customers are still able to check out the electric bikes, mountain bikes and even kids bikes in stock, and have service requests completed in a timely manner. // 13826 Braddock Road, Centreville
Conte’s Bike Shop
With over 60 years in business, Conte’s Bike Shop is still rolling along, despite the circumstances. The shops have currently paused the “Try Before You Buy” program, but shoppers can still order bikes, apparel, accessories and more online. Once you order, pick up your items (including a new bike!) curbside, or have it delivered to your home. For repairs, set an appointment online and you can drop off your bike curbside without even taking it off of your bike rack or out of your trunk. // Multiple locations
Green Lizard Cycling
Conveniently located just off course of the Washington & Old Dominion Trail, Green Lizard Cycling remains open with dozens of bikes in stock, and is happy to let you take a trip around the block if you find one you’re interested in. Find accessories, get tips and get your bike fixed up if it needs it. Plus, if you’re craving a cup of coffee that isn’t from your Keurig, you can still grab one from the in-store coffee bar. // 718 Lynn St., Herndon
Spokes Etc.
Closed Monday and Tuesday, and open noon to 5 p.m. for the remainder of the week, Spokes Etc. still offers one of the largest selections of bikes in the region, and now you can order online and pick up in-store with no wait. Don’t want to drive out? Shipping to your home is free for orders over $99, and specials are still running on certain bikes and accessories. Plus, if you’re an older rider looking to maintain social distancing, the stores are offering “senior hour” from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so you can stay safe and keep riding. // Multiple locations
Velofix
Sometimes you just need a tune-up, and if you have no wheels to make it to the bike shop, Velofix is here to help. The company is making its way across the region to help you get contactless service on your bike, without leaving your home. Make an appointment online and the visiting technician will have you leave your bike outside of your home, where they will pick it up and service it in the mobile bike shop, and return the bike to your door when finished. Simple, mobile and perfect for social distancing. // Most locations in Northern Virginia
Wheel Nuts
For cyclists in Alexandria, Wheel Nuts is still on its same schedule for in-store operations, just with added sanitation regimens, of course. Whether you’re looking for a wide array of options when buying a new bike or servicing your current one, you can order online and pick up in store, or, if you live within a 15-mile radius of the location, have it delivered straight to your doorstep. For inquiries about items in stock, feel free to call ahead to check the status, or place your order. // 302 Montgomery St., Alexandria
