The best in 2017 home design

These house transformations had us inspired and envious.

The walls of this Burke home family room had all of the staff at Northern Virginia Magazine in awe. It is bold to go dark, but it takes some real design-inspiration to go dark and glossy all at once. And it worked. This is our favorite room of the year.

We are always told that good things come in small packages, and the designers at Tiny House Building Company in Fredericksburg sure know how to maximize design in small spaces. What we wouldn’t give to sell the deed to our own land lot-specific homes and ride off to anywhere in one of these masterpieces.

Home design gets tiny

Finding the perfect balance of uni-sex decor is an art form. But, designer Syntha Harris of StoryBook Rooms showed us how to get it done right at this Reston high-rise.

In a family of more than one, a master suite is usually looked upon as an escape, a sanctuary, the only place you can really call your own in a house full of others. This Oak Hill bedroom gets it right in every nook and cranny.

The right stuff: A Reston high-rise condo has perfect views inside and out

Now that our voyeurism is going in full force, we’re rereading what we should do now so our own homes can be the ones turning others a healthy shade of green.
