On Sunday, March 8, people across the globe will celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women for International Women’s Day. Since its inception in 1975, the day has symbolized an opportunity to accelerate women’s equality, which is typically honored with a theme.
This year, the 2020 theme is #EachforEqual, with the slogan, “An equal world is an enabled world.”
Here in Northern Virginia, the festivities tend to be specific to the talented female leaders of our region. Caboose Brewing Company, for example, will be hosting its second annual International Women’s Day Market on Thursday, March 5.
The event—taking place within the brewery’s Fairfax location, known as Caboose Commons—will feature 26 local, women-owned businesses. Each will be selling goods like chocolate, jewelry, handmade art and more. Caboose Brewing is also included in the lineup, as the two-year-old brewery is owned by Vienna resident Jennifer McLaughlin.
This year, Caboose will also can a brand-new beer on the same day of the market. Empowered, a West Coast IPA blend with tropical, citrus and piney flavors, will be available for purchase throughout the celebration.
Vendors that will be in attendance at the International Women’s Day Market include Ethic Goods, River-Sea Chocolates, MizzMosaic and Lele Apothecary. For a full list of vendors, click here. // Caboose Commons: 2918 Eskridge Road, Fairfax
