Wrestling, Eating and Forest Bathing
This may just be my busiest week yet. While not at work, I’ll be celebrating my youngest son’s birthday. For a gift he asked for tickets to a WWE match (don’t know where that came from, but my husband will be traveling to Baltimore tonight to fulfill that wish). While they are taking in the theatrics, my older son and I will be hitting up a spot from the 50 Best Restaurants list. Then of course there is Halloween, and a birthday celebration on the actual day of my son’s birth. But later in the week I’m going to try and take it slow and try my hand at forest bathing (check out my article on it in the November issue) to calm my mind before heading to a friend’s house warming party on Sunday. –LN
It’s time for a few small repairs, she said
I’ve had Shawn Colvin on the brain and in my ears for the past few weeks, between interviewing her and poring over her engrossing memoir. But it all culminates tonight when my sister—who introduced me to the music of the gifted songwriter with songs from Steady On—joins me at the Birchmere to see Colvin in concert. (Fun fact: The only other concert my sister and I have attended together was also at the Birchmere. About seven years ago, we saw Suzanne Vega there—an artist who Colvin once sang backup for and who returned the favor on Colvin’s debut album.) –EB // The Birchmere: 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria
The Stand, Opening Nov. 1
Launching in Crystal City this Wednesday is The Stand, an outdoor venue featuring a rotating line-up of vendors. Opening day features La Columbe Coffee, Cookie Dough & Co. and B Doughnuts, and it’s just the sugar rush we need the day after Halloween :/ … –SG // The Stand: 1601 Crystal Drive, Arlington
Time to Pardi
Though I was just there this past weekend, I am headed back to Maryland on Friday to see country artist Jon Pardi perform at The Fillmore Silver Spring. Considering I purchased my ticket back in August after seeing him open for Dierks Bentley at Merriweather Post Pavilion, you can say that I’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time. Another thing that I’ve been counting down the days to: my cousin’s wedding on Nov. 4. The three hour drive to Pennsylvania after a night of singing and dancing may be a little painful, but I have no doubt that all the driving I’ll be doing this weekend will be well worth it. –RK
