Dance Dance Revolution
Even though I was born and raised in Northern Virginia, in my previous, pre-Northern Virginia Magazine life, I primarily covered DC as a lifestyle reporter. So, now that I’m solidly focused on NoVA, it’s been fun immersing myself even further in our arts and culture scene. I’ve been particularly impressed with the performances at George Mason University. This Friday, I’m heading out to the concert hall at GMU’s Center for the Arts to catch the Mark Morris Dance Group. They’ll be performing a few modern selections and I fully expect to be blown away. Did I mention The New York Times has called Mark Morris “the most successful and influential choreographer alive, and indisputably the most musical”? This is right in our backyard, folks. -KB // 4373 Mason Pond Drive, Fairfax; $30-$50
Prepare for ‘Whistle Stop’ to be stuck in your head
Growing up, one of my favorite Disney films to watch on repeat was the 1973 cartoon version of Robin Hood. Everything from the animation and the music, to the plot and the character’s personalities, intrigued me—I couldn’t get enough of it, and I’m pretty sure my mom ended up hiding the tape from me for a few months, just to get a break from listening to me trying to whistle along to the music. I’ll be reliving my childhood this Friday night, as I watch Encore Stage & Studio’s version of the classic tale. The show’s run ends on March 3, so see this play while you can. -HG// Gunston Arts Center – Theatre One: 2700 S. Lang St., Arlington; $12-$15
Sterling Park Shuffle is the newest beer crawl
Do we really need another pint glass in this house? Apparently yes, because starting this week, when grabbing three flights or pints from the trio of breweries in Sterling Park—Beltway Brewing, Rocket Frog and Crooked Run—drinkers win a tri-branded glass. -SG // Sterling Park Shuffle; Through April 1
