Stephen Sondheim has called her voice “one of the glories of the American theater,” and this month, Audra McDonald will be on hand to accept the musical theater legend’s eponymous award from Signature Theatre, in honor of her contributions to the American musical theater landscape.
McDonald has appeared on Broadway in hits like Carousel, Master Class, Ragtime and A Raisin in the Sun, appeared in several popular television shows and received the National Medal of the Arts from President Barack Obama in 2015.
The multi-hyphenate Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award-winning singer and actress will accept the award at a high-profile gala on March 4, at 6 p.m., held at the Embassy of Italy in DC, which will recognize the work of the enduring Arlington-based theater. // Individual tickets, $1,000; For more information, call 571-527-1828
