Bacon season
It’s not full-fledged farmers market season yet, but I’m itching to browse aisles, maybe pick up some black pepper-rubbed bacon from The Fermented Pig, a loaf of bread from Great Harvest and whatever else looks good at the new EatLoCo’s farmers market inside ChefScape at the Village at Leesburg. -SG // EatLoCo Farmers Market at ChefScape: 1602 Village Market Blvd., SE Leesburg; Thursdays, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The cherry on top of my weekend
One of my best friends from college is coming down from New Jersey to visit me this weekend, and we’re both thrilled about heading outdoors and smelling the cherry blossoms that are blooming all over the region (she’s never been in this region during cherry blossom season!). We haven’t yet decided if we want to deal with the drama that traffic and parking instills when you go to DC, but luckily for us, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna houses more than 100 cherry trees that are also blooming right now. Sounds cherry sweet. -HG // Meadowlark Botanical Gardens: 9750 Meadowlark Gardens Court, Vienna; $3-$6
Two scoops, please
Ballston Quarter feels like it has been almost open for years now, and it continues to roll out openings as the weather gets warmer. I finally made it over there a couple of months ago to write this story and it did not disappoint. I checked out Nook (see our story in the April issue), DC Lash Bar and peered longingly into Punch Bowl Social (it was morning, too early to grab a drink). But this weekend I’m going to head over there now that Ice Cream Jubilee is finally scooping up summer at Quarter Market. I love its innovative flavors and the fact that it’s locally owned. My three-year-old is going to love it and maybe I’ll even let my one-year-old have his first taste of ice cream! -KB // Ice Cream Jubilee: 4238 Wilson Blvd., Arlington
