I cannot tell a lie … I have an obsession with wine
What type of wine do you think George Washington drank? I kind of like imagining him sipping rosé for some reason—the pink goes well with the quintessential Founding Father white hairdo, in my opinion. I’ll have more time to ponder this with my friends this weekend at Mount Vernon’s Spring Wine Festival & Sunset Tour, where we’ll sample Virginia wines, eat food, listen to live music and take photos with George and Martha. -HG // George Washington’s Mount Vernon: 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon; $42-$48
Birthday beers
My husband’s birthday is this week. We officially celebrated this past weekend with an overnight stay in Philly while my parents watched our kids, drinking and eating with nary a diaper in sight. But on the actual day, we’ll walk to Hops N Shine, hopefully get a table outside, order enough fries so that the girls stay occupied, and down enough beers so the night still feels like a party. HBD, babe! -SG // Hops N Shine: 3410 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria
Adding to my art collection
We recently moved to a new house and I’m in full Pinterest mode, figuring out how I want to decorate. I’m a big believer in decorating around a few key pieces, and what you put on the walls is often a focal point. With that in mind, I’m heading to the annual Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival this weekend. Even though it’s in the suburbs, it’s one of the top five art fests in the entire country. I’ll be looking for some new, affordable art to decorate around, plus letting my kids make some of their own artwork in the Family Art Park at the festival. Who knows? Maybe those will be the masterpieces that end up framed on our walls. -KB // May 17-19; Reston Town Center: 11900 Market St., Reston; restonarts.org/fineartsfestival/; free
