Ax throwing lodges have been popping up all over the country in the past few years. We gathered a list of where you can go locally to unleash your inner lumberjack.
You don’t need a beard and a flannel shirt to enjoy the craze that’s taken over the country. We’re talking about ax throwing. The sport is exactly what it sounds like: competitors throw an ax at a target, attempting to hit the bull’s-eye.
Event centers for ax throwing have been popping up across the nation, with a few opening in DC and one in NoVA in recent years. Below, see our list of where to go in the area. Lumberjack attire not required.

It’s also the host of regional league competitions for the World Axe Throwing League. The location serves alcohol, but is also BYOB-friendly. // 45448 E. Severn Way, Suite 150, Sterling; $29.99-$49.95 per person
Hit the bull’s-eye at Flippin Steel, a mobile throwing range that will come to you, as long as you have the space needed for the range to be set up (the range needs an area that’s at least 16 feet wide, 17 feet deep and 11 feet high). The entertainment company will travel to anywhere in Northern Virginia, DC, West Virginia and Maryland. Participants can throw either axes or knives, and alcohol is allowed at the events, as long as common sense is used. // Prices vary
