The coronavirus has officially claimed another big summer event: Cirque du Soleil has announced this summer’s Tysons show dates will be postponed until 2021.
The new show, KOOZA, will now run at Tysons II from July 21 to Sept. 19, 2021.
The originally scheduled performance, Alegría, was set to open in the region on July 28. The entertainment group’s press release states, “In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of all public events across the world, Cirque du Soleil has had to suspend all its shows and pause the touring schedule temporarily.”
Customers who purchased tickets for the Alegría tour dates will be contacted by a sales representative and given steps to exchange their tickets for new KOOZA tickets.
Although Alegría won’t be making it to a NoVA stage this summer, audiences have a lot to look forward to with KOOZA. According to the group’s website, KOOZA returns the performers to their roots, paying homage to traditional circus themes.
Audience members can expect acrobatic performances and clowning, all while exploring the themes of fear, identity, recognition and power. KOOZA creates a fantasy world, featuring 50 acrobats, musicians, characters and clowns decked out in over 1,200 costume pieces. Guests will continue to be amazed as the cast performs death-defying feats, including the double highwire and wheel of death, for a performance truly worth the wait.
